3rd Annual Seahorse Tournament

October 31 - November 3, 2024
Ponte Vedra Croquet Club

The 3rd annual PVCC Seahorse GC Tournament was held October 31st thru November 3, 2024, at the Ponte Vedra Croquet Club facility in Ponte Vedra, Florida.  Forty-seven entrants played singles Golf Croquet, starting with Flighted Block play on Thursday and Friday, leading into Flighted Bracket play on Saturday, and finishing up with Semi-finals and Finals on Sunday. We had beautiful, fall sunny weather for North Florida, resulting in excellent conditions for croquet play.

Players were seeded by d-grade in 3 Flights, Championship, First Flight, and Second Flight.  Each Flight had two Blocks of 8, with one late scratch causing Second Flight to have one Block of 8 and one of 7 players.  Each player played every player in their respective Block and then all players were seeded by win/loss record, then net wickets, and finally by d-grade, if necessary.  All players advanced to the round of 16 Bracket play in their Flight. The winners in the round of 16 advanced on in the Knock-Out for each Flight.  Losers of the round of 16 Bracket moved over to Consolation Bracket for their Flight.

The Championship Flight ended with a great 19-point game between Mike Hoggatt and Robert Hamilton.  Mike Hoggatt prevailed, at the “Hook,” over Robert by the score of 10 to 9, to win the Championship Flight.  Todd Russell won the Championship Flight Consolation.

The First Flight finals game also provided spectators with an exciting finish in a 13-point game between MaryCarol Stearns and Paulette Blackmer.  MaryCarol came out with the victory, 7 to 5.  The First Flight Consolation winner was Phil Emond.

The Second Flight finals game was a well-played game by Sarah Persons and Susie Day.  Sarah won the Second Flight and Susie was the runner-up.  The Second Flight Consolation was won by Alise Scanlon.

PVCC club founder and owner, John Curington proudly handed out all the awards.  The event had a host of volunteers that made it fun, with excellent food and drink, coupled with lively croquet competition and comradery between all the players.
