The Texas State Championships took place at The Memorial Park Croquet Courts in Houston, Texas. Contestants came from Tyler, Houston, and Baton Rouge, LA. Contestants were challenged by the copious amounts of rain and the ensuing court conditions. Despite the difficult weather and lots of rain, the court surface played well as it gets lots of care from the City of Houston golf maintenance crews. The tournament hosted the traditional Open and First Flights who battled through block play and were seeded into the knockout. In First Flight, the USCA 2024 Rookie of the Year, Kevin Fasano, went undefeated through block play and the knock-out to claim First Flight –Texas State Champion. He was challenged in a close finals game by another rapidly improving newcomer, Bass Wallace. Wallace only lost to a lower handicap veteran and Fasano in block play. Joe Leary bested Mary Craddock in a hard fought final for 3rd place.
Open Flight (Championship) notables were 13 time State Champ - Britt Ruby, Bob Hafner, 2016 State Champ- John Brown, George Peterkin, Stuart Coco, Scott Kennedy, and last years First Flight Champion – Charlotte Pulitzer. Pulitzer battled her way through block play and the knockout to capture 3rd place in her first Championship level tournament! John Brown went undefeated through block play and the knockout to meet Stuart Coco, who retired Ruby and Pulitzer in the playoffs.
