Turkey Trot Double-Digit Handicap Tournament
September 22-24, 2023
Lenox Croquet Club
The Lenox Croquet Club held its third annual Turkey Trot Double-Digit Handicap six-wicket singles tournament over the first weekend of the autumn in Lenox, Massachusetts. Four LCC members and three players from the Quogue Field Club in New York took part, with handicaps ranging from 10 to 16.
For this event, the Lenox Croquet Club focuses on providing a great experience for players who would be found in the second or third flight in the typical invitational tournament. Three 60' x 84' courts allowed everyone to play at one time without double-banking. A full round-robin block gave each player six 85-minute games over two full days and Saturday morning. Two playoffs followed, with the top four from the block competing for the Championship trophies and the rest fighting it out for the Plate.
In the final, played under wet, cold, and windy conditions, the LCC’s Ken Heim, returning after a yearlong break from croquet, beat Quogue’s Judith McDermott by a score of 18-15. In the Plate final, Katie Bull, having been edged out of the main event by Ken, defeated Barbara Sartorius of Quogue with a convincing score of 17-9.
