2022 USCA Midwest Regional Tournament
September 2-5, 2022
LaFortune Park - Tulsa, OK

LaFortune Park

After heavy rains overnight on Thursday, we enjoyed four full days of friendly competition under clear blue skies at this year’s Midwest Regional in The Gardens at LaFortune Park. This included 2 flights singles and doubles of American Six-Wicket play. One of our four courts was used to accommodate a Club Golf Croquet Event on Saturday and Sunday. The real star of the weekend was the Tournament Dinner hosted by Stuart Price at his recently acquired property, Westhope, the Frank Lloyd Wright designed home built for his cousin Richard Lloyd Jones, a Tulsa newspaper owner. Even as the home was under construction for refurbishment, it made a great setting for catered drinks and dinner after a tour with an architectural historian.

We enjoyed welcoming Steve Berry and Todd Marshall from Colorado to their first Tulsa tournament. And it was great to see so many old friends from the Scissortail Croquet Club in OKC, the Millicans and Griffiths from KC, Brian Zindel from IL, Brian Hovis from KY and our Regional VP Russ Dilley from IN. Of course, we certainly missed our dear departed friend Harold Menzel who never missed a Tulsa tournament over the past several decades. Retired players Howard and Lois Holdsclaw drove up just to say hello.  Thanks to Russ and Brian Hovis for their video documentation of the event.

In Championship Singles, Conner Helms (-1) was the Winner and Stuart Price (4) the Runner-Up with a final score of 13-9. Scott Spradling (-1) and Matt Griffith (-2.5) tied for 3rd. Championship Doubles Winners were Griffith/Helms over Runners-Up “The Brians”, Hovis/Zindel. Ellie Griffith (5) was Winner beating Runner-up Steve Berry (6) in First Flight Singles 13-8. Jon Spaulding (6) edged out Carl Archiniaco (5) for 3rd. First Flight Doubles determined by block play Winners were Suzanne Spradling/Jon Spaulding over Runners-Up “The Denver Duo” Todd Marshall/Steve Berry.
